Bruises: A Minor Injury That Shouldn’t Be Overlooked
First, let’s understand how bruises occur. Bruises develop when the body experiences an impact—ranging from mild to severe—that causes blood vessels beneath the skin to rupture, allowing blood to leak into the surrounding tissue. This leads to visible discoloration of the skin in the affected area. Initially, a bruise may appear purple or dark blue, then gradually change to green or gray, and eventually turn yellowish-brown as it heals. These color changes are part of the normal healing process, which typically takes 7–10 days.
