Is breast augmentation good? What type of augmentation is suitable?
Before deciding to undergo breast enhancement surgery, it’s not only about whether the results will look beautiful or whether the size will match your expectations. There are several important considerations—from choosing the right type of silicone to understanding postoperative care.

Here are 5 essential things you should know… that many people still don’t!

1.The “Midline Width” of the Silicone Is Crucial for Natural-Looking Results

Many people believe that natural results depend mainly on postoperative care—such as breast massages—or the chosen implant shape.
In reality, one of the most important factors is the midline width of the silicone implant.

Surgeons must measure the patient’s natural breast base width and choose an implant with a midline width that closely matches it.
This prevents the breasts from looking too wide, too close together, or “blocky.”
Selecting the right midline width is key to creating a natural, harmonious result.

2.Bigger or Smaller Breasts Don’t Depend Only on CC Volume

Most people focus solely on the number of CCs when choosing implant size.
However, the process is more detailed:

  1. The surgeon first determines the appropriate midline width based on your anatomy.

  2. Then they compare it to the size chart of the implant brand.

  3. This determines the profile (projection) of the implant—how much it projects forward.

Only then do we know the final CC volume.

So in reality, CCs are not the main unit of measurement—your chest anatomy is!

3.Placement of the Implant Affects Whether the Breasts Look Natural or “Blocky”

Even with the correct midline width, implant placement is equally essential.

For example, with submuscular placement (under the muscle):

  • The muscle gently presses on the top of the implant

  • This creates a soft, teardrop-like shape

  • The breast surface appears smoother and more natural

This method reduces the risk of the breasts looking too round or artificial.

4. Massage After Breast Augmentation Is No Longer Necessary

Many people worry about tightness and postoperative complications, causing them to massage their breasts frequently or visit massage clinics.

But with modern techniques—especially submuscular placement
– breast massage is NOT required after surgery.

Arm stretching exercises naturally move the muscle over the implant, providing the gentle motion needed.
In fact, incorrect massage techniques may deform the implant or alter its position, increasing risks instead of preventing them.

5.Postoperative Self-Care Is Just as Important as the Surgery Itself

After one week, once the sutures are removed, many patients assume they can resume normal activities.
However:

  • The reason for removing stitches at exactly 7 days is to prevent scarring,

  • Not because the incision has fully healed.

You must still avoid:

  • Raising your arms above your head

  • Lifting heavy objects

  • Sudden or forceful arm movements

These actions can reopen the incision and increase the risk of infection or implant displacement.

When planning for surgery, it’s important to consider more than just the clinic and the cost. You should also gather essential information such as the surgical techniques, the types of silicone implants available, proper pre- and post-operative care, and schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss all details thoroughly before making a decision. This is a crucial step that should not be overlooked.
